NBI holds gender mainstreaming workshop

The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) has held an inception workshop for gender mainstreaming in the organisation. The workshop took place from 19-21st September 2007at the NBI secretariat, at Entebbe.

The workshop was held under the auspices of Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) through the Gender Equality and African Regional Institutions (GEARI) project.  The 4 institutions participating in this project include: Forum for Agriculture Research (FARA) based in Accra, Ghana; The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) Secretariat, Entebbe Uganda; L’Observatoire du Sahara et du Sahel (OSS) Tunis, Tunisia; and African Trade policy Centre (ATPC) Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. As a way forward, NBI is planning to undertake a gender audit, leading to the drafting of a gender action plan as well as establishing a gender monitoring system.
