Challenging Career opportunities with a Nile Regional Organization :

One Nile – One Family

The Nile Basin Discourse (NBD) is a regional network of civil society organizations established to facilitate and support civil society engagement in Nile basin cooperation and development processes. Its mission is to ensure a Nile Basin where resources are equitably and sustainably developed and managed benefiting all its inhabitants. A primary focus for engagement and advocacy is the regional Nile Basin Initiative and its constituent national governments as well as the media and public.

In a bid to consolidate its achievement to-date by strengthening its institution, and to implement its mid and long term ambitious plans, the NBD is inviting committed, competent and dynamic professionals from the riparian countries of (Burundi, DRC, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda) to apply for vacancies within the NBD team of staff based in Entebbe and Kigali. These posts are concurrently being advertised in Burundi, DRC, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, and Tanzania.

Whilst each position has its specific challenging requirements, the NBD Board is looking for professionals with demonstrable track record of achievement progressively acquired in complex organizational set up, self –motivated and innovative individuals capable of working in multi-cultural environment and with diverse stakeholders, able to work independently yet committed team players with demonstrable contribution to the overall objectives of the organization.

The NBD values the contribution of its staff and will provide a competitive salary and benefit package for successful candidates for the following vacancies:

(1) Regional Manager – Based in Entebbe, Uganda (Previous applicants for this post need not apply)
• Provide strategic development and leadership of NBD in line with Board decisions.
• Ensure proper implementation of agreed programs
• High level representation of NBD to NBI, Governments, Partners etc
• Liaison and support for NDFs.
• Head management of the NBD Secretariat.
Competencies
• Masters degree in relevant field
• Excellent communications skills in English – French and Arabic an added advantage
• Proven fundraising skills and donor relations
• At least Seven years experience in similar capacity in Regional/international organization
• Program development and fund management

(2) Advocacy Officer – Nile Equatorial Lakes Region – Based in Kigali, Rwanda (Previous applicants for this post need not apply)
• Develop and deliver NBD’s advocacy and lobbying agenda and positions at the sub –regional level.
• Provide technical support to NDFs in advocacy at national, transboundary and regional levels.
• Liaise and seek to influence sub – regional bodies of NBI.
Competencies
• First Degree in relevant field with a Masters being an added advantage
• Good knowledge of communication and public relations techniques
• Knowledge and previous experience in high level advocacy work with international experience being an advantage.
• Excellent communications skills in spoken and written English. Knowledge of French and Arabic will be an added advantage

(3) National Coordinators – Based in Tanzania and DRC (Only Nationals of these countries need to apply.)
• Develop and manage NBD activities at National level
• Conduct nation wide campaign on specific Nile issues as agreed by the NBD
• Develop, coordinate and implement activity plans in the country as agreed by the NBD Board
• Track implementation of NBD initiatives and show results at country level.
• Support the NDF Board in developing the NDF institutional capacity and fundraising strategy.
Competencies
• First Degree in relevant field with a Masters being an added advantage
• Project development, planning and management skills
• Excellent communication skills with spoken and written English
• At least 3 years in similar position preferably in national/regional organization

4. National Programme Assistants – Tanzania and DR Congo (Only Nationals can apply respectively)
• First Degree in relevant field
• Project planning and management skills
• Good Skills of accounting, reporting and administration
• At least 3 years experience in similar position with a reputable National organization
